My Letter to Heaven....!!

Here on earth is a girl, who is always alone;
Tears rolling down her cheek an umpteenth time
In remembrance of her daddy-
Her superhero, who was much more than spiderman or superman
Her first love, whom she can no more see or play with;
And the little girl is left wondering,
Where her fairy-tale teller may be!!
She envies her friends fortune,
But seldom understands her misfortune.
Often, she is questioned about her daddy’s whereabouts,
For which she manages to say,“My daddy is up there, in heaven, in search of
the best Barbie doll, that his Barbie would love to have,And till he finds it, he will be the lucky angel
who is watching and blessing his little princess,right from heaven”.
As a child, the little girl never knew,
Her daddy had kept another angel in-charge of
his little princess;
As time passed by, the lonely girl realized,
Her love for her dearest mommy, is more than anyone’s imagination.
Her mommy, who is much more than being just a mother,
Daddy’s daughter sees that her angelic mommy carries two souls within,
Whom she calls her mommy is also her daddy.
The little girl survives each day,
With the belief, that, in her mommy, her daddy resides….
If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane,
She would walk right up to heaven, to bring her
daddy, home again…….!!!

Tuesday 3 January 2012

With the idea of writing my first blog, I thought I should start off with one of those precious moments i spent with daddy...:) :) Yes..!! Its about my "The MOST EXCITING  Day " that i had as a kid......Having a handful of besties, everyday at college is getting exciting. Yet the first one always matters much, aint it?? :) :)
     So....before i start my tale, let me tell you about myself. I am Aishwarya.Ravi(yea..i feel proud carrying my father's full name along...feels like holding his hands tight...like he is always with me...no joke.....!! ), the younger of two children( dis makes me lucky most of de tymss...:P ), the elder being Ram( moi sweetu brother), this wonderful lady- my mother ,and ,my dearest person- my daddy(the most best'est' father on earth-proud daughter i m). And now, about this blog, this is an incident that I incurred as a 6-year old. We lived in a beautiful apartment in Nanganallur( urban agrahaaram wud be better). As a kid, I was a big time lazy lump in gettin ready for school and the other blah-blahs. On the contrary, Ram was quite punctual(especially in maths...!!!)
     Cut back to 8 Aug'98..................
                                       It is 4.30 PM....I came home from school...totally exhausted. Ram( d usual "nice boy") finished his homework stuffs and happily left for play(cricket tym..!!). Pity on me...No friends I had in our Nanganallur apartment ...:( I was always with mommy and daddy...felt like a neonate who is never left alone...:D :D :D (most beautiful days of my life). I went to the balcony. Daddy was returning home from office. I rushed to him. I carried his bag and he carried me...:D :D This day, he was very happy. His smile was so big, like it extended to both his ears. Amma got him his Filter coffee and as usual I had the first sip from his cup( dis s bcoz my mom never gave me coffee wen i was a kid...daddy did...). Curious enough I was, to know the reason behind his biiiig smile. I was on his lap and daddy on his easy chair, mommy and Ram on the couch. After about 10 minutes of suspense, daddy said that he was getting promoted to the next level as a Scale 2 officer. With my 6-year old brain, I asked,"Daddy, but you'll have to work longer...:( What is happy about this...!! :( :( :( " And the entire family ended up laughing out aloud...!!! Daddy began, " Ice kutty, your talks do make sense kannama....But the happy part of it is that sooner we are moving to a busier city, probably NewDelhi or Mumbai, and appa has planned to take you people in an aeroplane..:) " In a perfect sync, I and Ram started in chorus,"aaaaaeeeeerroooppllaanneeee..!!!!". And in no time we were arguing, for he wished migrating to NewDelhi and I wanted Mumbai. Like in any other family, mommy took his side and daddy mine..:) Both of them consoled us later. We sat for supper, followed by 30 minutes of the repeat telecast of "swatcats" on cartoon network. Its bed time now. I lay on my bed, next to daddy. This day, I am not reading my usually fairytale, nor I am holding my dear teddy. Instead, I am left thinking about the big city- Mumbai, along with Ram's toy plane in my hands....:D :) :) :)
                               It is the next day now, a friday. I got ready for school by 8.45 AM( I am supposed to be there by 8.30 AM for prayers :P ). Ram had already left. So, like any other day, Daddy had to drop me in his bicycle( a super vehicle according to me). We reached school. Daddy kissed on my right cheek and me on his left. I waved my hands and ran into the school premises. I rushed to my class teacher, Mrs. Divya Mary- the lady  with a wheatish tone and curly hair that was plaited. I asked her, " Miss, can you please tell me something about the city of mm....mmmaa....mooo..uhmmm....mmumbai and Dilli(NewDelhi, the way i pronounced)..?? " She replied, "NewDelhi is the capital city of our country and Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, is the busiest city in our country." this went right into my mind...no.... into my heart..!!! :) :) :) I returned home. I was being a really good girl this evening. I am eagerly waiting for daddy like no other day. Finally, I saw him enter our apartment gate, rushed to him as always. While mommy brought him his coffee, I stood up in the middle of our living room as if i were competing an elocution. I cleared my voice and with all those I-know-everything expressions on my face, I began,"Mmm...mmaa....mooo...mumbai, known before as Bombay.....(a pause..)...is the capital city of our country." And about Dilli sorry Delhi, I  totally forgot it. Even before I finished, all the 3 were laughing so hard that their faces flushed. I am left with this typical What-is-so-funny look on my face..!!! Daddy took me closer and said," Ice ma, I can see your dreams about mumbai despite knowing nothing about the city.But you know, I have always told you, Ummachi( god in our own slang) gives you what is right and not what you want.." He hadn't finished his statement and tring-tring-tring ran our telephone. Daddy attended the call. That biiig smile bloomed again on his face. He came to us and revealed that we would be leaving on a week's time.......(a pause)...to........(I could not bare his element of suspense).......to ....to....(a longer pause).....MUMBAI....!!!!! My happiness knew no bounds. Another happy evening it was for the four of us....:) :) :) Bed-time now. I lay between mommy and daddy, my eyes closed though I was not into deep sleep.I heard them talk,"new city.....language problems.....new people....new school...good school we should find...etc etc..." I dont remember the rest of it, maybe i fell asleep....:) In two days time, We were done with the packing stuffs. I took my teddy with me(didn't want to let it travel alone in the lorry).
                                     The day had come. It was the 13th of August'98. All set with our baggages, We boarded into the cab that took us to the Meenambaakam Airport. As we entered, I gazed through the place. Aeroplanes that I had seen only as toys in my shelf or as birds in the sky, were visible as giant vehicles. As i saw them, I asked this silly question,"Daddy, when we get into the plane, who will have the remote control in their hands and make us fly to mm..mmmumbai..??" It seemed like I was becoming the humor person of the family because these people laughed for almost everything I said...!!! All the formalities done, we were in the bus that would take us to our flight. And now, the giant vehicle in front of me, that read "Air India". In a panoramic view, I would probably be nowhere next to it. I held Daddy's hand firmly and we started walking into the staircase that led us into the plane. A fair-complexioned lady in a red saree stood at the entrance to welcome the passengers in the Indian way. Another lady wearing a similar saree directed us to our respective seats. Each row had 3 seats. I was between mommy and daddy, Ram was on a parallel row on the other side. The same lady whom I had seen at the entrance, now instructed, "Fasten your seat belts please." I barely understood what she meant.Our flight took off. Sometime later, another lady wearing a similar saree offered sweets and drinks.I was wondering who these females were. That is when I learnt a new word-AIRHOSTESS.  Something was happening to my ears, for which daddy stuffed in some cotton. Few minutes following the take-off, I tried gazing through the window. Surprisingly, I could see nothing but crushed paper balls scattered here and there in a water body. Daddy explained that we were flying at an altitude of more than 31000 feet. I realised, we were amidst the clouds like the kites do. As excited as never before,I laid my eyes on the window and  hogged the veg sandwich that was served by the hostess. I could feel that the flight was landing and in 1 hour 30 minutes, We reached the bigger busier city of MUMBAI.
                                                                         I keep wondering, even after almost 13 years since then, this remains the most exciting event so far. This may seem silly. Yet it is very special for me. Thank you for sparing your time to read this sweet memory of mine.
